Toponymy is the branch of Onomastics that deals with the study of Place names (geographical features, streets, locations, etc). It traces their origin through written documentation and oral pronunciation, and suggests their correct form and use.
 
Toponymy provides information about the evolution of language and the environment, and adds insight into the people and the landscapes of today and the past. Moreover, it is an indispensable tool for tracing, rendering benefits to navigation, territorial planning, maps and atlases, hiking, communications, emergency and rescue operations, and so on.
 
Toponym Locator
The Toponym locator is a tool that was created by the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya, which allows you to search for Catalan Toponyms by either their first or last word. These search results are very interesting and useful for the study of Toponymy.
